Happy places…
Biancara was born in 1988 by Angiolino Maule and his wife Rosamaria. After twelve years of life as pizza chefs they dedicate themselves to their lifelong passion, viticulture. In the early 1980s they purchased land in the hilly area of Sorio di Gambellara and built their house and cellar. The extension of the company is 20 hectares, and many vineyards were planted in these early years.
VOLCANIC
SOUL
LA BIANCARA SELECTION
The philosophy of Angiolino Maule who leads La Biancara is that of continuous improvement, organic and biodynamic practices were only the starting point.
Angiolino Maule is the owner of the La Biancara winery and the president of VinNatur, the association to which many European natural winemakers belong. In 1984 Angiolino left his job as a pizza chef to realize his lifelong dream: producing wine following the laws of nature. He then bought some land in Sorio di Gambellara, Vicenza, and in 1988 with his wife he produced the first Sassaia, a wine made from Garganega grapes. Today, as then, the rules he follows as a winemaker and winemaker are the same: no herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers; limited use of copper and sulphur, hand harvesting for a better selection of grapes, spontaneous fermentations and “no” to micro-oxygenations. Today Angiolino with his sons Alessandro and Tommaso run the vineyard and the cellar together with a collaborator.
The spirit of research for improvement and authenticity in our wines remains a constant priority. The extension of the vineyards today is 18 hectares in total, of which 15 are owned and 3 are rented. The heart of the company is located in the volcanic hills of Gambellara, where the Garganega vine has been established for more than 1,000 years; 85% of our land is home to precisely this grape! Two hectares are in Sossano (15 km further south), in the Berici Hills, where Tai Rosso (Grenache) expresses itself at its best. The management of the company remains (and wants to remain) completely family-run, from the work in the vineyard, to the care of the cellar, up to marketing.
